Poetry of the People

Learn about the genre, its pioneers and the impact of spoken word on history. Part of the Library's Poetry Series.

Metaphorically Speaking (MS) was founded on a road trip and is the brainchild of spoken word artists Jay Martinez and Ace Metaphor. With humble beginnings as a gritty, energetic, sexy, diverse monthly poetry slam competition, MS Slams has morphed into a monthly poetry experience. Metaphorically Speaking introduces the artistry and complexity of spoken word to the masses through slam competitions, school workshops, and full stage productions.
