Trotwood Branch Library Prepares for Move
The current Trotwood Branch of the Dayton Metro Library system closes to the public on Saturday, February 22, at 6:00 p.m. so that Library operations may begin the move into the new facility, located at 855 E. Main Street. The Grand Opening of the new Trotwood Branch Library takes place Friday, March 13, 3:00-6:00 p.m., with regular hours resuming Saturday, March 14.
The new facility features accommodating spaces for public use, including a flexible Community Room accessible before and after Library hours, a Conference Room, two Quads and a Group Study Room. The cheery Children’s Area has a “Celebrations” theme, and TeenEDGE features a dedicated PS4 gaming system. Patrons can borrow laptop computers for in-Library use, enjoy a Quiet Reading Room or outdoor patio, and use mobile audio equipment and editing software.
“The new Library and proposed plans in Trotwood will offer us a lot of new outreach and programming opportunities, which makes our future very dynamic and exciting,” said Caitlin Wissler, Trotwood Branch Manager. “However, the best moment will be seeing the doors open to the public and the reaction of those we know, as well as all the new people we will meet.”
Several features unique to the Trotwood Branch Library reflect its community. There are four original art installations in the ReImagining Works project, plus a special piece created using clay from the Library grounds. An outdoor Nature Play Area incorporates local trees that were downed by the 2019 Memorial Day tornadoes, and Quads for reading or study feature a Trotwood Trailer design.
Until the new facility opens on March 13, patrons are invited to visit the New Lebanon Branch Library at 715 W. Main Street, the Northwest Branch at 2410 Philadelphia Drive, or the Brookville Branch at 120 Blue Pride Drive. The book drop at the current facility will remain open through March 12.
Coming up soon at the new Library is an event called “Celebrating Community Through Storytime” on March 31. Recognizing the “Celebration” theme of the Children’s Area, community members will read stories aloud. An after-hours event specifically for local teachers is also in the works.
