Like most residents of Huber Heights, I anticipated my sneak peek at The Rose Music Center as it opened its doors to the public this past weekend. There was live music, face painting and games for the kids, radio station broadcasts, and concessions previewing their onsite menu offerings, but the star of the show was the theatre itself.

The Music Center has a contemporary feel. Two large video screens flank each side of the stage for close up views of the performers. Large ceiling fans keep the air moving and should ensure fans are comfortable on those humid summer evenings.

Unlike some outdoor venues, this 4,200 seat amphitheater is fully covered so shows will continue rain or shine. The seats are fairly comfortable, and after trying out several in various corners of the theatre, it seems all will offer a good view of the stage. There are lots of restrooms, which any female concertgoer always appreciates. Plus, there is close parking and ample room for a crowd to wander prior to the start of the show or at intermission.

Since construction on the music center began in 2013, fans have kept tabs on the project through online video cams as they awaited news of the center’s opening season lineup. The slate of performers did not disappoint, as evidenced by the long line of ticket buyers on preview day.

The season will begin with An Evening with Rodgers and Hammerstein presented by the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance on May 16. Performances will continue through September 8 with a variety of headliners including George Thorogood and the Destroyers with Brian Setzer, Dwight Yoakam, Sammy Hagar, Melissa Etheridge and Blondie, Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, Pat Benatar, The Dancing with the Stars Live Tour, The Beach Boys and The Temptations, and Peter Frampton and Cheap Trick.  For a full list of concerts, click here.

With a world-class venue, easy accessibility, and affordable ticket prices, everything’s coming up “roses” in the Heights for music fans this summer.

The venue is located at 6800 Executive Boulevard, just north of I-70. Tickets are available at the box office or through Ticketmaster and parking is included in the ticket price.
