NonTraditional Urban Gardening Techniques
Learn three different gardening designs with Alfred Hall co-founder and executive director of Hamilton Urban Gardens (HUGS). Raised box square foot gardening is the practice of planning small but intensively planted gardens. It incorporates closely planted raised beds and biointensive attention to a small, clearly defined area. It is well-suited for areas with poor soil, beginning gardeners, or for those that have trouble bending down to garden. Pallet gardening also uses intensive planting, but occupies the spaces between the slats of a wooden pallet. This method is for areas with poor soil, beginning gardeners, or for those that do not like to plow, till, or hoe. And the advantages to straw bale gardening are many. Great for areas with poor soil, excessive weeds, and drainage problems. Hall is a certified square foot gardener and a practicing urban farmer. Open seating for ages 16 and up.
