Second Helping of Cupcake Wars

Only a few months after an appearance on "Cupcake Wars" kick-started their bake shop's rise to prominence, Brittany and Tina Moore will be returning for another competition.

The duo opened Moore Dessert Please! earlier this year at 1003 Shroyer Rd. in Oakwood, bringing a face to a baking business they'd been running for some time.

"It started about two years ago, we began as an online bakery and from our website we built our customer base," said owner Brittany Moore. "I applied to be on Cupcake Wars, and when we got it they told us it was going to increase business, so we thought we should be prepared by opening a storefront that people could go to."

The Moores will be returning for a second episode Sunday. This time around, they will compete as a mother-daughter duo against three other teams from across the country. The episode will air at 8 p.m. October 21 on the Food Network. The competitors will have a chance to bake their creations at a special event for teen musician Cody Simpson.

It's another acknowledgement of the talent of Brittany Moore, who was just 22 in her first appearance. The bakery specializes in cupcakes and cupcake pops, with vanilla, chocolate, red velvet, and seasonal specialties among others.

"It's just a love for baking," Moore said. "Everyone loves something custom-made."

The cupcakes are exquisite, really. Moore told me her hottest sellers have been carrot and red velvet, though the pumpkin spice variety available this fall was really hard to pass up. The magic is in the delicate frosting, which is so rich and creamy that it almost has the consistency of ice cream.

It's good news for Moore, who hopes to take her bakery to the next level.

"I'd definitely love to open more storefronts," she said, "We started this one and we're slowly getting the hang of it for the next step."
