So What Happens When You Boil Snow?

There is so much fun to have in the winter! Have you had a chance to get out and play in the snow? (DO NOT try this at home!)

So What Happens When You Boil Snow?

Boiling snow?  Mister C Investigates...

Mister C loves going outside and exploring the world, so when it was -32 degrees Fahrenheit, he jumped at the chance to have some wintery fun!

Mister C braved the frigid cold to put boiling hot water into the air using a super soaker to learn what would happen. (Please do not try this experiment at home as the extreme temperatures can burn you or even cause frostbite!)

Before watching the video, make a prediction about what will happen?  Will the boiling water turn to ice and freeze up the super soaker, or will Mister C create a patch of ice and slide away? Watch the video below and see if your prediction was correct.

The three common states of matter that we encounter most commonly are solids, liquids and gases. Water is unique because it can exist in all three of these states of matter at the temperatures normally found on Earth! When Mister C shoots the boiling hot water into the frigid air, it rapidly evaporates and then immediately condenses back into a cloud!  Pretty amazing!

Look for different states of matter as you go through your day, especially in the kitchen!  What happens to water when you put it in the freezer?  What happens if you put other liquids in the freezer?  You may notice that things like rubbing alcohol or oil behave differently in the freezer. Always have an adult supervise doing any experimenting at home and keep experiments separate from food you will eat.

Whether you are a parent, grandparent, aunt/uncle, teacher, or friend, we can all take the time to help kids reach their full potential. Mister C invites you all to join him to explore the wonders of the world around us to LEARN TOGETHER!

When Mister C is not in the lab experimenting or in the studio dropping beats, he loves to connect with other learners online. Share how you’re having fun learning this week and use #LearnTogetherDayton to everyone what you have learned with Mister C!
