Urban Nights

Urban Nights - Dayton OH

Walk on downtown's creative side!  The next Urban Nights event on Friday, September 12, 2014, from 5 to 10 p.m!

What is Urban Nights?

Urban Nights is a free event that showcases downtown's dining, nightlife, art, music, retail, urban living options and more twice a year - once in the spring and once in the fall. The event has been described as a huge, all-inclusive street party and open house for downtown, with something for everyone to enjoy.

Businesses and restaurants offer special discounts, artists and galleries open their doors to the public, musicians and entertainers of all kinds perform throughout the center city, and several of downtown's urban living options are open for tours.

Typically, more than 30,000 people are expected to pack the streets, so come join the fun and experience your downtown!

Activities will include:

  • Local nonprofit UpDayton is breaking out the "big guns" for the Splatter Zone, a hands-on, paintball mural art project located in the Westminster Presbyterian Church parking lot at the corner of First and Wilkinson streets.
  • The Art in Action area will offer hands-on arts activities with K12 Gallery/TEJAS, including an "Art-Off" competition, photo booth and performances by Dayton's own contemporary dance group, SMAG Dance Collective.
  • Over on Courthouse Square, visitors can watch participants rappel from the KeyBank Tower as part of the annual Big Brothers Big Sisters "Over the Edge" fundraiser.
  • Five Rivers MetroParks also will be on site, hosting the "Subaru Urban Outdoor Experience". Enjoy mini bike races, stand-up paddleboarding and slacklining in this preview for the annual Midwest Outdoor Experience
  • RiverScape MetroPark again hosts the annual Taste of Miami Valley, where visitors can snag a sample from their favorite local establishments, or take the opportunity to expand their palettes and try some new flavors.
  • As always, the Oregon District will be hopping with the Live on Five stage plus offerings from Dayton's most popular restaurants.
  • Food trucks, local craft beer, live music and tons of fun at The Yellow Cab Food Truck Rally.
  • The Wright-Dunbar Business VillageDayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park, and many more areas will be active that night.

Planning a visit is even easier; in addition to the on-street spots (which are free after 6 p.m. and on weekends and holidays) free parking will be available at the Arts Garage at Second and Ludlow streets. The Greater Dayton RTA also will provide free event buses to help visitors hit all the action. Look for the special blue and orange line buses that will transport visitors to different downtown destinations in a snap. Want to live just steps away from the action?
