Born in Alabama, Coretta Scott King overcame childhood adversity in the segregated South and attended Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio. A talented singer, she would go on to play an integral role in the American Civil Rights movement, not only as the wife of Dr. Martin Luther King, but as an independent woman. For years after her husband’s death, Coretta continued to inspire the nation and the world. Produced by ArtReach, a Division of The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati.

The Coretta Scott King Book Awards are given annually to outstanding African American authors and illustrators who demonstrate an appreciation of African American culture and universal human values. In celebration of Black History Month, this writing workshop focuses on our personal stories that showcase the importance of the American Dream.
