The Dayton Philharmonic is nothing short of thrilled to be taking the stage once again at the Schuster Center for the first time since March to record this emotional concert which we are affectionately calling The Dayton Philharmonic Returns! Each piece of this program will comprise a subset of the full orchestra, each with nearly 25 musicians on stage at one time, socially distanced, of course, but together again to do what we have been longing to do since the pandemic began—to perform beautiful music together for you. Even if you can’t be with us in person.

The program opens with Richard Strauss’s Suite for Woodwinds, which marked the first time the 20-year old composer conducted his music in public, and launched his long conducting and composing career. The program continues with the exciting Symphony in Brass by contemporary American composer Eric Ewazen (which has percussion, too, even if it’s not in the title!) The DPO closes this meaningful and historic concert with Mozart’s Eine kleine Nachtmusik, one of his most-recognized and best-loved works. The DPO is over the moon to be able to perform again in our beloved home that we have missed so much over these last six months!
