Virtually join the DSA for a drawing workshop over Zoom! Meet instructor, Sam Kelly, and learn about his artistic practice. Follow along and use the kit included in registration to create your own drawings!

Registrants will pick up their kits from the High Street Gallery (48 High Street, Dayton) 12pm-5pm: Friday, May 14 or Saturday May 15, 2021

Registration is limited. Registration is only $5 thanks to an MCACD Special Projects Grant! (If the $5 is cost prohibitive, e-mail director@daytondsa.org or call 937-228-4532 for free registration!)

Sam Kelly
Sam Kelly is an artist currently residing in Dayton, Ohio. He earned a BFA from Wright State University and an MFA from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. He attended the Chautauqua Institution School of Art and participated in a Drawing Marathon with the New York Studio School. He has exhibited his work nationally and internationally including the CICA Museum, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea; THE ROOM Contemporary Art Space, Venice, Italy; Surface Gallery, Nottingham, United Kingdom; Bowery Gallery, New York, New York; Prince Street Gallery, New York, New York; Bromfield Gallery, Boston Massachusetts; and 3 Square Art Gallery, Fort Collins, Colorado. His work has also been featured in numerous magazines including Blue Bee MagazineMurze, and Envision Arts Magazine. During the summer of 2020, Sam was a Four Pillars artist-in-residence and Guest Critic at the Mount Gretna School of Art. He currently teaches as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Dayton and Indiana University East.

Sam’s work expresses a raw and energetic approach. He is interested in the relationship that exists between abstraction and representation. As an artist, he continues to pursue the ability to invoke a painting and drawing with authenticity and intensity for maximum engagement.

Introducing...
The purpose of the workshop series, Introducing..., is to acquaint DSA members and the community to different mediums and methods in the visual arts. In conjunction, the attendees will get to know the instructing artist, their background, and tips and tricks of their trade.
