The Magic of the Season at Countryside Park

Woodland Lights returns with the traditional lights and sights people have come to love and a month loaded with holiday activities. The Miami Valley's most beloved lighting festival now opens a week early -- on the Friday after Thanksgiving, when friends and family are gathered to kick off the holiday season.

As always, Woodland Lights will be filled with sparkling lights, whimsical displays, and a winding path that passes through themed lands such as Candyland, Arctic Tundra and Toyland. The path also leads to what has become the festival’s centerpiece: the panoramic view of lights reflecting off the woodland pond. All of it takes place against a backdrop of holiday music.  Nightly activities include:

  • Carriage Rides - Two large and lovely Percherons from Heavy Horse Farms take families on a nostalgic tour of the park and off the beaten path.
  • Santa Claus - Children can visit Santa in his historic log cabin complete with holiday decorations, a cozy fire, and either Mrs. Claus or Santa’s elf to join in the fun. It’s a perfect photo-op for parents, so bring your camera or smart phone!
  • Amusement Rides - Kids can step off the path and into our midway. Festival admission includes unlimited ride experiences for all ages.
  • Costumed Characters - Photo-ops are available each night with our rotating group of costumed cartoon characters, including a pair of friendly mice, a talking snowman who loves warm hugs, and Santa’s elves.
  • Live Animal Displays – Ever wondered how reindeer fly? Visit with Santa’s deer, then ask Santa yourself when you visit him in his log cabin. Plus, our animal expert always brings a few surprise guests to spend their holidays by our back pond.
  • Festival Food - Bring on the festival food! Concessions will be available for purchase. Check online before your visit for details on who’s serving what and when each night.

Junior Claus (select nights)
Junior Claus will visit Woodland Lights on select nights, along with other cast members from Junior Claus, presented December 6-22 at Town Hall Theatre. Junior is the only son of Santa and Mrs. Claus. Like many teenagers, he is reluctant to take over the family business. When a sudden drop in Christmas spirit renders Santa incapable of making the great ride, Junior must take the reins.

Pet Nights (select nights)
Your family’s best friend is invited to walk the holiday path. We even provide doggie waste bags at the gate and throughout the park. Dogs should be people friendly and kept on a leash to assure a positive experience for all. Please check our online nightly calendar for dates.

Visit with Santa in our Amazing, Historic Log Cabin

Every night through December 23, Santa welcomes children to his cabin. Just walk down a sparkling path to a historic log cabin that's decorated in lights and festooned with greenery. Everything about the log home is authentic -- from the large beams overhead to the old limestone fireplace. A fire burns each night in a large hearth near Santa's chair, greenery is draped across the mantle, and a holiday tree sits in the corner. The cabin offers an inviting, non-commercial alternative for visiting Santa.
