The Little Mermaid

Carroll High School Students are Going Under the Sea and Up in the Air Over Disney’s The Little Mermaid

Students fly in the musical based on the Hans Christian Anderson story and the classic Disney film.

Dayton, Ohio - Carroll High School Freedom Players are performing one of America’s  favorite animated films with permission from Music Theatre International.  Disney's The Little Mermaid is a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages. With music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and a compelling book by Doug Wright, this fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including "Under the Sea," "Kiss the Girl" and "Part of Your World."  Carroll’s production includes flying  seagulls and swimming mermaids with flying effects by “Flying By Foy”, a widely-respected theatrical flying service based out of Las Vegas.

Ariel (Madison Galiardo ‘17) , King Triton's (Michael Taylor ‘20) youngest daughter, wishes to pursue the human Prince Eric (William Taylor ‘17) in the world above, bargaining with the evil sea witch, Ursula (Brooke Butler ‘17), to trade her tail for legs. But the bargain is not what it seems, and Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends, Flounder the fish (Laura Polanka ‘19), Scuttle the seagull (Lindsey Shaffer ‘19) and Sebastian the crab (Adam Saunders ‘19) to restore order under the sea.

Carroll student leaders are Production Manager Julia Arnold, Student Director Marina Sorrell, Choreographer Sophia Murray, Stage Manager Amelia Thompson, Technical Director Edward Wolff, Properties Manager Natalie Jobe, Costume Manager Aurielle Barber and Makeup Manager Lydia Hughes.   The cast and crew consist of over 70 Carroll students in grades 9 through 12.

The Carroll Freedom Players are directed by Mrs. Toni Weitz.  Musical director is Mrs. Diane Taylor. Stage Director is Mr. Jack Glaser.  Costumes are led by Miss Abigail Wiles, and makeup by Mrs. Cassandra Shea.
