Meet Chef Roland Eliason, the talent in the kitchen of The Winds Café, a popular, independently owned, farm-to-table restaurant in Yellow Springs.

Chef Roland EliasonEliason is competing in a global online food competition to be named "World’s Favorite Chef" with a $50,000 grand prize and a coveted two-page advertising spread in the popular foodie magazine, Bon Appétit.

Much to his surprise, Eliason was entered into the competition by someone anonymously.

"I decided if I was so inspiring to one person I might as well run with it," Eliason said. "My journey has spanned 21 years. Though it has been fraught with hardships, it has also been illuminated with amazing people, experiences, and locations. I wouldn't trade it for anything."

Having successfully moved through the group stage, Eliason needs a push within the next 12 hours to stay in the competition.

"I'm currently in second and need to spread the word to vault into first place and move forward from the group stage," Eliason said.  "The group stage ends tonight."

"Please take a second to vote for Chef Roland! He is a great guy, chef, and a lot of fun to work with!" Zahora said.

Eliason is hoping a win will benefit the local Dayton restaurant community as it recovers from the effects of the pandemic.

"Dayton is not so secretly becoming a hotbed of culinary and hospitality activity."  Eliason said.  "Local restaurants and bars are everywhere and serving damn good food and drinks. The community is growing stronger by the day and it is amazing to be part of it all."

As for the winnings, Eliason plans to help fund programs at his kid's local daycare.

Also, he may buy a new apron.
