The Junior League of Dayton will host a series of author-led book discussions to raise money for community literacy programming. The JLD’s new fundraiser, Read Between the Wines,will feature wine tastings, hors d’oeuvres and lively discussion with a local author.
Literacy has been a community impact focus for the JLD since 2014. Since then, its members have restocked local school libraries and supported library branches with summer literacy programming to counteract summer slide.

March 20—Lost Dayton with Andrew Walsh
From the Wright Brothers Factory to the park that hosted the first NFL game, Andrew Walsh explores diverse sites from Dayton's disappearing legacy in Lost Dayton. Walsh is an author, researcher and academic librarian at Sinclair Community College. Lost Dayton published in 2018.
April 17— The Kindness of Strangers with Katrina Kittle
Katrina Kittle is the author of four adult books—Traveling Light, Two Truths and a Lie, The Kindness of Strangers, and The Blessings of the Animals—and one novel for tweens, Reasons to Be Happy. She teaches creative writing to authors of all ages and facilitates “Leap and the Net Will Appear” and “Happy Class” workshops. In April, Kittle will discuss her novel The Kindness of Strangers.
May 15—Dear Fear, Volume 2 withTywauna Wilson
What would you do if fear wasn't holding you back? Dear Fear, Volume 2: 18 Powerful Lessons on Living Your Best Life on the Other Side of Fear gives women strategies and tools to move beyond fear and into greatness. Tywauna Wilson is a contributing author to Dear Fearand several books about courage and resilience. She’s the founder of Trendy Elite, a leadership and personal growth consultancy based in Cincinnati, and also serves as the System Technical Director of Chemistry at a regional laboratory.
All of the events will be at the Dayton Club (40 N. Main Street)from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 per event or $95 for the series. Tickets and more information are available at jldayton.org. Registration closes one week prior to the event.
Guests are also encouraged to bring new or gently used adult books to donate to Project Read.
