New Play Reading - The Lesser Light

On February 26th at 6:30pm, the Ohio Playwrights Circle, in association with The Human Race Theatre Company, will present a new script reading of The Lesser Light by local playwright Brett “Shane” Cooley. Set on the outskirts of a disappearing coal town, two young, orphaned sisters struggle to find their way in the wake of their father’s suspicious death. Hermit Tully Parker narrows the widening gap between the sisters as they grapple with the isolation of the Appalachian mountain and the darkness behind closed doors to the place where folklore, grief, hardship and secrets have become religion.

The Human Race Theatre highlights its commitment to the development of new theatre with new play readings at the Caryl D. Philips Creativity Center located at 116 N. Jefferson Street in downtown Dayton. The doors will open at 6:00pm. Admission to the readings is free, but donations are welcome to cover production expenses. Seating is very limited. Audiences are invited to stay after the readings for refreshments and a post-performance discussion with the playwright.

The Ohio Playwrights Circle (OPC) exists to bring opportunities and education to Ohio playwrights. OPC is a project of the American Artworks Foundation.
