Author Event: Poet Herbert Woodward Martin Launches New Collection
Washington-Centerville Public Library invites the public to hear and be inspired by the poet Herbert Woodward Martin and his newest publication, “The Shape of Regret” on Tuesday, November 12, 7-8 p.m., at Woodbourne Library. This new collection, heralded as something that will be whispered about – gossiped about – by creative readers and writers for years to come will come to life in the voice of Dr. Martin. To create his poems Martin, a recent TEDxDayton speaker, draws from his own life, experiences, and passions. Many of the poems speak directly or indirectly to poets who have shaped or interested Martin, including Hart Crane, William Carlos Williams, Lucille Clifton, Jackson Mac Low, and Robert Frost. He also gives further voice and testimony to the African American experience both in the present and the past. The program is free, but registration is required to ensure adequate seating (and book availability). Books will be available for sale.
