76th Anniversary of Hiroshima

This event, which took place virtually last year, involves the simultaneous ringing of bells in Dayton and in our Japanese sister city of Oiso to mark 76 years of peace since the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Remarks will be made by members of local organizations including the Dayton Sister City Committee, The Japanese American Citizens League, and the Dayton International Peace Museum.  Representatives from the Dayton City Commission and the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners will also be on hand to mark the anniversary.  Citizens and residents are encouraged to attend and are welcome to join in the ringing of a gong on CourtHouse Square, which will be rung 76 times, once for each year of peace between the two nations.  First Lutheran Church of Dayton will also be ringing their bell during the ceremony.  The event will be live streamed on the Dayton Sister City Committee's Facebook page and will be taking place as our friends in Oiso ring the bell in their city.
