EARTH CRY: The Del Sol String Quartet

Among the featured works are compositions by the pater familias of Australian music, Peter Sculthorpe . Sensual and contemplative, spiky and wild, the works—like Sculthorpe’s entire oeuvre—channel the spirit of the vast Australian landscape. Featuring the eerie, rich resonance of what is often regarded as a curiosity—the didjeridu (or “didgeridoo”)—the music echoes both the beauty and fragility of the earth. Although inspired particularly by his native Australian, Sculthorpe believed that what was extremely local had the greatest capacity to speak universally. Co-sponsored by the Hanley Sustainability Institute.

LEARN MORE: Arrive early at 6:45 for an introduction by the musicians to the didjeridu, Sculthorpe's legacy and his work's connection to environment.
