Sophisticated Ladies with Steven Reineke
Sophisticated Ladies with Steven Reineke
The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra welcomes guest conductor Steve Reineke back to the Miami Valley and the Schuster stage. Reineke’s boundless enthusiasm and exceptional artistry have made him one of the nation’s most sought-after pops conductors, composers and arrangers. He is the Music Director and Conductor of The New York Pops at Carnegie Hall, Principal Pops Conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and Principal Pops Conductor of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. A native of Ohio, Reineke is a graduate of Miami University of Ohio, where he earned bachelor of music degrees with honors in both trumpet performance and music composition.
Maestro Reineke is joined by guest singers Capathia Jenkins, N’Kenge, and Montego Glover to perform classic songs from the tradition of the Harlem Renaissance singers . . . women such as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Dinah Washington, and Billie Holiday. These women gave voice to jazz classics and new voice to many standards. It’s an evening filled with soul in the voices of those Sophisticated Ladies.
“When you sing, always tell the truth.” (Billie Holiday) . . . The musical “truth” in this evening will most definitely set you free.
