Dayton Metro Library annual Career Adventures Day at the Main Library - Thursday, November 4 and Friday, November 5.
Dayton Metro Library is preparing to host their second annual Career Adventures Day at the Main Library on Thursday, November 4 and Friday, November 5. Approximately 950 students from area middle schools are expected to participate.
This event is designed to support the Ohio Department of Education’s mission to create pathways for successful futures by allowing students a chance to explore a variety of careers.
“The importance of exposing young people to a wide variety of career options can’t be overstated,” said Diane Farrell, Director, External Relations and Development at DML. “The more practical, attainable options they encounter, the more likely they’ll find their own path to success. The entire community benefits when our talented youth stay local and keep contributing to the future.”
At the hands-on, fast-paced, tradeshow-style event, students will move through different stations, exploring and experiencing real-world careers in nine different employment sectors including:
Advanced Manufacturing - Dayton Region Manufacturers Association, FASTLANE – MEP, Miami Valley Career Technology Center, Oerlikon Friction Systems, and Resonetics
Aerospace - Sinclair National UAS Training & Certification Center
Construction/Skilled Trades - Associated Builders and Contractors - Ohio Valley, Home Builders Association of Dayton, Miami Valley Apprenticeship Coordinators Council, and Ohio Valley Construction Education Foundation
Healthcare - Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association, Dayton Children’s Hospital, Kettering Health Network, Mercy Health, and Premier Health
Information Technology - Dayton Metro Library, CareSource, Sinclair Community College, Smart Data, Technology First, and University of Dayton
Logistics– American Trucking Associations, Crocs Distribution Center, and Dayton Area Logistics Association
Public Service – City of Dayton Department of Water, Dayton Fire Department, and Dayton Police Department
Education – Montgomery County Educational Service Center
Entrepreneurship – Entrepreneurs’ Center, Greater West Dayton Incubator, and Launch Dayton
Career Adventures Day is an outgrowth of DML’s wildly successful, nationally-recognized Career Adventures Camp – an immersive, week-long summer day camp that has been held in the past. While not as intensive as the camp, this event gives hundreds of students hands-on experience with some of the most interesting, in-demand careers in our region.
