The fate of Glen Helen Nature Preserve uncertain
As Ohio relaxes lockdown restrictions, Glen Helen Nature Preserve in Yellow Springs will remain closed and there are currently no plans to reopen in the near future.
The beloved nature reserve, including its trails and the Glen Helen Raptor Center was closed to the public on March 25 amid the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic and concerns over social distancing. All programs were canceled, and the parking lot and other points of entry are still blocked with tape.
Yellow Springs Police Department is helping patrol the preserve while it remains closed.
The Glen was gifted to Antioch College in 1929 by alumnus Hugh Taylor Birch, who donated the wooded glen in memory of his daughter, Helen. The college is currently in talks with the nonprofit group, the Glen Helen Association, regarding the fate of the preserve.
