I'll never be what you'd call a waif or a runner's body, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy a leisurely jaunt (or jog) around the neighborhood, especially this time of year!

After returning from a trip to Europe, I had to face the facts: my tennies weren't just tired, they were worn out. And to be honest? My feet hurt after walking more than a few blocks. I was tempted to go into any of the big box stores and buy whatever was on sale that week.

I reminded myself that if I were going to continue to walk my talk with a spring in my step, I needed to invest in shoes that were comfortable. It was time to get some expert help so I found my way to Up and Running off of Far Hills Avenue.

It can be daunting to walk into a running store when you're a little out of shape, but don't let that stop you.

The folks at Up and Running immediately put me at ease and ushered me to the fitting area. We chatted about my needs and any problem I was having. I was asked to remove my shoes and we took the old-fashioned route: my feet were measured with a Brannock Device. But this wasn't a quick measure and go. I was measured seated and standing as honing in on the amount of support my arches needed was important.

After all the measurements were complete, I was presented with four different pairs of shoes that fit my feet's unique needs.

Then it was time to give the shoes a spin. I jogged down the sidewalk under the watchful guise of my fitter to verify fit-while-moving. I left with a snazzy black pair with neon yellow trim. All the notes of my feet's needs were input into the computer, including the information about the white pair I sadly left behind.

Best of all, my feet feel fabulous. (And I'm heading back for that white pair later this week.)
