MetroParks offers special hours for ice skating

The MetroParks Ice Rink offers skating opportunities for all ages and skill levels all winter. Open daily through March 1, the rink also offers special hours during Martin Luther King Jr. Day and President’s Day, themed music nights and deals for couples during Valentine’s Day.

Featuring beautiful views of the scenic Great Miami River in downtown Dayton, the MetroParks Ice Rink is the region’s largest outdoor ice skating rink. Admission to the MetroParks Ice Rink is $6 daily, and visitors can rent ice skates for $2.

Special events at the MetroParks Ice Rink this season are:

  • Dayton Funk Night: Friday, Jan. 17
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day Skate: Mon. Jan. 20
  • Frozen on Ice: Friday, Jan. 24
  • Top 40 Hits Skate: Friday, Jan. 31
  • Queen’s Greatest Hits: Friday, Feb. 7
  • President’s Day Skate: Mon. Feb. 17

Themed music skates are select Fridays, from 7 to 10 p.m. and are included with regular admission. Holiday skates, including Martin Luther King Jr. Day Skate and President’s Day Skate are from 11 to 5 p.m.

In celebration of Valentine’s Day, the MetroParks Ice Rink will offer a Sweetheart Skate deal from Friday, Feb. 14 through Sunday, Feb. 16. Sweethearts are invited to enjoy a couple’s skate at the MetroParks Ice Rink, including admission, skate rentals and hot chocolate for two and a box of Bellbrook Chocolates — all for $20/couple. This Valentine’s deal is available during the rink’s regular hours of operation.

Visitors can stay warm while purchasing admission under the MSD Warming Zone. The Kettering Health Network comfort tent, presented by Butler Heating and Air Conditioning, is adjacent to the rink and provides skaters and observers with a warm place to take a break from the winter weather. Additionally, warm snacks and beverages will be available at the RiverScape Café.

Skating lessons for children, teens and adults are held at the rink in January and February and cover basic skills that will have participants moving comfortable on the ice. Access to Nature Scholarships are available to qualifying families who wish to participate in skating programs. Provided by the Five Rivers MetroParks Foundation, these scholarships are for those of all ages and pay for part of the cost of fee-based programs.
