UGIVE.ORG Making Massive Impact in Miami Valley Area
Last Updated: 1/27/2012
DAYTON - It has been a quick year and half for UGIVE.ORG. Starting out as a relative unknown among the nonprofits in Dayton, UGIVE had 20 non-profits at the beginning of June 2011. The website for high school volunteers has since then cemented itself as the place to go if you are a high school student looking for community service with now over 62 non-profits. The benefits the site offers, not only for high school students, but also non-profit organizations, are next to none. The best part is that the website is free to use.
For those of you who have not heard of UGIVE.ORG, their mission is to make volunteering relevant to high school students. This is accomplished by using a medium young students are well versed in, the Internet.
In UGIVE.ORS’s first year in Dayton, UGIVE.ORG was able to garner a relatively underground following from both high school teachers and non-profit administrations alike, ending the year with 700 students signed up, 200 volunteer hours in the Dayton area. In UGIVE’s second year, as of January 2012, the organization jumped to a staggering 2,000 students and over 1000 hours given back to the Dayton community.
Although the UGIVE.ORG branch in Dayton has been hard at work promoting their organization, there are several other new initiatives for the 2011-12 year. The project with the most impact is UCREW, the new student advisory board. UCREW is set to have their Amplify Dayton benefit concert on April 13th at the Baum Opera House in Miamisburg from 9pm-12am.
UCREW consists of thirteen high school students from all around the Miami Valley. The advisors at UGIVE.ORG facilitate, while the students get a chance to put their ideas into action. The purpose of the event is to raise awareness for the Miami Valley Down Syndrome Association through a medium we all share in common, music.
UGIVE is a nonprofit organization on a mission to catalyze, excite and empower the next generation of volunteers. We make philanthropy relevant to students, guiding them to give their time and talents to build communities. Our goal is to create life-long givers. UGIVE is 100% free for students, schools and charities. To learn more, visit www.UGIVE.org
