Jake Owen

Jake Owen might never have had a career in music if not for a wakeboarding accident. Prior to that he had intended to pursue a career as a pro golfer, but after reconstructive surgery left him unable to play competitively, he learned to play guitar and began gigging in his native Florida. He moved to Nashville and signed to RCA in 2005, and released his debut album, Startin’ With Melater that year.

His debut single, “Yee Haw,” reached No. 16, but his second single, “Startin’ With Me,” was his real breakthrough, hitting No. 6. The title song of his third album, Barefoot Blue Jean Night, gave him his first No. 1, followed by three more No. 1 hits with “Alone With You,” “The One That Got Away” and “Anywhere With You.” 2013′s “Days of Gold” kept his momentum going, scoring another No. 1 with “Beachin.” The album’s third single, “What We Ain’t Got,” was a turn in a more serious direction for the singer-songwriter.

Jake Owen refuses to be content with success. In May of 2015, Jake released his fourth album, Real Life, with the single of the same name. “This record is a shift for me toward getting away from the fairytale,” he tells Rolling Stone Country. “This is real life, these are real songs, real-life scenarios … I just want to sing songs about real things, real feelings, and songs that are happy.”
