The 1960s were a tumultuous decade - filled with historic firsts. Washington-Centerville Public Library and Hithergreen Center bring you a special five-week series of scholar events that will look at some of the most important issues of the decade. March 3 - Music of the 60s - Music went from rock and roll to wild. Learn about Woodstock, the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, protest songs and more. Presented by Larry Schweikart, PhD, University of Dayton
March 10 - A Decade of Firsts & Lifestyle of the 60s – Wal-Mart, the Super Bowl and Sesame Street all began during the 60s. The hippie lifestyle took off, young adults moved into communes, and people were encouraged to make love, not war. Gain a sense of what the 60s were all about. Presented by Gary Ruff of the University of Dayton Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.
March 17 - Civil Rights Movement – Vital legislation was enacted in the 60s including the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
