Six Strings x 3: An Acoustic Guitar Evening
The Dayton/Troy Ohio area will be host to a rare musical offering when David Youngman, Chris Weiss, and Mark Bayer bring their acoustic guitars, along with their gifted musical imaginations and virtuosity, to the Mayflower Arts Center in Troy, Ohio on the evening of Saturday, October 18. All three are experts on solo fingerstyle guitar, the art of playing melody, chords and bass on only one guitar. The end result is nearly orchestral, the players creating a musical illusion of something very difficult appearing effortless.
Six Strings x 3 will feature Youngman, Weiss and Bayer playing a solo acoustic fingerstyle program back-to-back, each giving a unique stylistic twist to their music which perfectly complements the other. Youngman finds influence from the likes of Bela Fleck and Billy McLaughlin, Weiss from Paul Simon and Andy McKee, and Bayer has taken a classical guitar background and infused it with the contagious tones of blues and jazz. Each has honed their craft through years of formal study, but also on the road and in competition. David Youngman has the distinction of winning the 2013 Fretboard Festival and was runner-up for the 2013 and 2014 Canadian Guitar Festivals and 2014 Indiana Stringfest, and Chris Weiss and Mark Bayer likewise landed respectable showings at some of the same competitions, Bayer also visiting the Winfield National Fingerstyle Championship in the past. Weiss and Bayer will likely also be surprising the audience with their vocal prowess in addition to wowing with their instrument alone.
