Dayton Philharmonic - A Musical Zoo
Panthers and horses and bears…oh my! The DPO explores the animal kingdom as it proudly presents an afternoon of songs all about animals, including Haydn’s bear, Copland’s cat, Ferde Grofe’s burro, and Henry Mancini’s famous Pink Panther.
The DPO will perform Leroy Anderson's famous Home Stretch and will try to finish the piece before Secretariat crosses the finish line on the video screen above the orchestra. To find out who will win, you will have to bring the whole family to see for yourself. There will even be an "Old MacDonald" sing-along, so come prepared to shout out your best animal sounds!
The DPO will be joined by singers from the Dayton Opera and dancers from Dayton Ballet II, filling the stage with unforgettable performances and lots of fun. Conductor Neal Gittleman will be bringing several of his favorite stuffed animals, and the DPO members will have some of their beloved stuffed animals on hand, or on instrument, as well, so be sure to bring your stuffed animals, as many as you can fit in the seat with you, and be ready to have a furry good time!
