Dickstein to be Appointed Dayton City Manager

The Dayton City Commission will appoint Shelley Dickstein to City Manager effective February 3 at its regularly scheduled City Commission Meeting.

Dickstein to be Appointed Dayton City Manager

Dickstein has served as Interim City Manager since September 2015.  Prior to that appointment she was Assistant City Manager, overseeing Economic Development, Planning, and Building Services.

Dickstein began her career with the City of Dayton in 1996 and has 20 years of urban administration and economic development experience. During her tenure, Dickstein has structured and overseen the completion of 125 development projects that created 4,800 new jobs, supported the retention of 15,000 jobs, and leveraged over $260 million of development in the Dayton community.

The Commission cited many reasons for the appointment.   Mayor Nan Whaley stated "Shelley is uniquely qualified to run the City organization and will bring a strong vision to move the community forward."

City Commissioner Joey Williams said, "As Interim City Manager, Shelley has demonstrated the executive acumen and commitment to public service necessary to hold the city's top position.  Her economic development experience, and knowledge about the City organization, makes her the right choice for City Manager."

Newly elected City Commissioner Chris Shaw said, "Although I have worked with Shelley for a short while, as a small business owner, I have been impressed with her plans to make the City more business-friendly and her enthusiasm for the community."

Dickstein's annual salary will be $172,500, and she will oversee a City budget of over $600 million, and a staff of roughly 1,900.

"I am excited to lead a City organization in good financial condition, with a talented and passionate staff, and poised for strong growth in the coming years," said Dickstein.  "As a Dayton citizen, I am excited to work with this exceptional elected leadership team and continue the work that we have started."

City Commissioner Matt Joseph stated "With the exception of our newest Commissioner the City Commission has a long history working with Shelley.  We are impressed with her experience and commitment to Dayton."

Commission Jeff Mims said "Over the past several months, I have seen the staff more energized under Shelley's leadership.  Her work in the area of customer service has been remarkable.  She was the clear choice to lead the organization."
