Looking for the next step after you have taken pottery 101? This workshop is for you! You don’t have to be a master, just understand the basics of clay to take this class and learn more techniques that anyone can use to improve their work and grow. Designed for our ceramics studio members as well as potters in our community; the class starts with an intensive demo workshop on the topic listed and then leaves time for students to ask questions, talk about projects they are working on, have a round table discussion and talk shop.

 

August 11: Build a Bird. Intro to handsculpting and its applications.
We will learn to build a 3-D bird sculpture in this class while talking about the principles of hand building, sculpting and how to apply it to other works.
 
September 8: Off the Hump, Heavy Weight Wheel throwing
We will talk all about working with larger weights of clay, demo how to wedge center and throw of a hump to make work faster. We will also cover chip and dippers, how to assemble or throw solid and how to make really tall things using multiple cylinders. 
 
October 6: Wheel Throwing a Closed Form: Mushroom making and Jack’o Lanterns. 
 
November 10: Glazing party! 
We will learn how to use vynal decals, resist decoration, glaze penciles, silk screens and a special use of gold luster.
 
December 8: Slab rolling and Building: Plates, trays, bowls and more.
We will learn how to use the slab roller and extruder. How to make a flat chunk of clay into a beautiful form without the wheel!
