Winter Restaurant Week 2017 PreviewYou can’t pack 50 chefs into a room without a little bit of raucousness.

At Miami Valley Restaurant week, Chef Dana Downes stood by with a 48-hour French onion soup as onlookers streamed by the table where her two restaurants, Roost Modern Italian and Park City Club, were offering up dishes.

“See! I thought of you for 48 hours,” she exclaimed to one hungry person about to be satisfied. “Can you get better than that?”

Indeed, Downs and dozens of other chefs have been thinking about Dayton, and this week they get to show off their talents.

Restaurant week returns this week, and even bigger than years past. New restaurants and established ones alike are bringing something new to the table and it’s a good chance to break out of your usual restaurant routine and give someone new a try.

Five crowd favorites:

Wandering Griffin’s Beef on Weck Sliders: Juicy beef and a salty weck (with just a little horseradish on top) kept the line deep for this Beavercreek newcomer all night. Wandering Griffin knows good bar grub and it knows good beer to match.

Roost Modern Italian’s Tiramisu Bread Pudding: A combo of two favorite desserts rolled into one! Oregon District’s experimental Roost Modern Italian found a good way to marry the two, with that nice foamy chocolate just melting into the sweet bread.

Coco’s Bistro’s Winter Salad: Candied walnuts, spinach and bleu cheese, a delight! Coco Bistro has a different salad for every season, a little different each year, but its winter salads tend to be great combinations of nuts and cheese like this.

El Meson’s Mayan Chicken Enchilada Soup: Never one to stick with something new, El Meson’s soup is a delightful tomato-based number thick with veggies and a little cheese on top for good taste. Always something worth trying here!

937 Grill and Taproom’s Loaded Tots: The folks at 937 Grill & Taproom have quietly set up shop with a good mix of pub grub and a comfortable place to enjoy it. The tots can be loaded with a mountain of toppings from chili to peppers and cream cheese.
