Inspire a Lifelong Love for the Outdoors

Children of all ages are encouraged to discover and play at Five Rivers MetroParks’ 2014 Midwest Outdoor Experience, presented by Wagner Subaru. The event takes place from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Eastwood MetroPark, 1385 Harshman Road, in Dayton. Admission and parking are free.

MOX Kids Activities

At the Subway Fresh Fit Youth Adventure Zone, children will have the chance to learn more about outdoor adventures and healthy, active lifestyles. A zipline, nature playground and fitness challenges are some of great activities kids will be able to experience. They can sign up to compete for prizes in Gander Mountain’s “Kids Crazy Casting Contest,” a fishing pole casting contest. Several community organizations also will be present, offering children the chance to participate in unearthing fossils and interacting with different animals, including owls, turtles and snakes.

MOX Kids Activities

In addition to the Subway Fresh Fit Youth Adventure Zone, the whole family can explore numerous other areas. Check out the kids’ whitewater classes in the paddling area. Try out different bikes at the IMBA Bike Village with push bikes for toddlers and mountain bike demos for older children (helmets required) or watch the DK Bike Team demonstrating stunts and tricks. Head over to the Mad River Mountain Action Sports Area and go for a ride at the “mini” snow tubing park with tubing for the young and young at heart. Adaptive equipment also will be available for some experiences.

Try an Outdoor Adventure

The whole family can stay closer to the action by bringing a tent and camping for the weekend. (Sites are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis.) For the first time, limited space will be available for small pop-up campers, too.

Prior to participating, all Subway Fresh Fit Youth Adventure Zone participants must turn in a signed release of liability waiver. Those younger than 18 must have a parent/guardian sign the form, which can be filled out at information tents during the festival or downloaded from the Midwest Outdoor Experience website to bring to the event.

Get the weekend’s complete schedule at outdoorx.org. Admission and parking for this event are free, thanks to contributions from presenting sponsor Wagner Subaru, as well as sponsorship from Subaru, Osprey, Zuke’s, True Heights Outfitters, Subway Fresh Fit, Mad River Mountain, REI, International Mountain Biking Association, Great Lakes Brewing Company, Bonbright Distributers, Dayton Cycling Club and Vibram Disc Golf.

Admission and parking for this event are free.  Read more: Midwest Outdoor Experience 2014.
